The Canada Disability Benefits are provided to the citizens of the country whose financial life is interfered by a temporary or life-long disability. According to Statistics Canada, people with disability face a higher risk of poverty. Thus, the CRA launched the Canada Disability Benefits under the Canada Pension Plan (CPP) for the betterment of low-income disabled citizens. You can check your eligibility criteria before moving to any further procedures. The monthly disability income will make sure that no citizen will have to go through financial hardship caused by the disability. The pension aims to cover the basic household expenses of the eligible citizens such as purchasing groceries and Medicare.
The CRA has already announced the Canada disability benefits payment schedule for year 2024 which will be directly deposited to the respective bank accounts of the recipients. However, the average payment that you will receive on a monthly basis will depend on how much you have contributed to CPP during your employment. On continuing to this post, the disabled citizens may be able to acquire all the details on the CRA’s plan to lift the disabled citizens out of poverty. It will also cover its eligibility criteria, payment dates and the average payment amount that you are eligible to receive.
Canada Disability Benefits Bill 2024
The Canada Disability Benefits is a monthly income-based program applicable for the disabled citizens who are restricted from doing any work. The Canadian government passed the C-22 bill on 2nd June 2023 while creating federal benefits program. The bill notes that the working-age persons with disabilities are in majority to live in poverty than other working-age citizens. The bills aim to provide a major financial assistance to the disabled citizens having low-income or no income and to lift them out of poverty line. As per the data shared by the Statistics Canada, more than 12 percent of disabled people with age 15 years or above live below poverty line as of 2022. The number was raised from 10.6% in 2021.
On April 16, the Government of Canada has announced the funding for the Canada Disability Benefits in 2024 budget, proposing an investment of $6.1 billion over six years. The CRA aims to provide a benefit of $2,400 on an annual basis with $200 per month to an eligible citizen. The C-22 bill or the Canada Disability Benefit act will benefit over 600,000 low-income individuals having disabilities. It is advised to the citizens to qualify the eligibility requirements in order to claim the disability pension.
